Question I’m looking for a floor tester that meets (Army Main Corp. Regulation) AMC Regulation 385-100. This is listed on Chapter 7, page 2. It states Maximum floor resistance shall be measured with a suitably calibrated ohmmeter, which may operate on a normal open-circuit voltage of 500 volts DC and a short circuit current of 2.5 milliamperes with an effective internal resistance of approximately 2 million ohms.Please let me know if you know of anyone who might have a meter that will meet these requirements. www.redstone.army.mil/safety/reg385100/vfc chapter 7, par 5 sub par A, B, C and D - Kevin O’Connell, Primex Technologies, Marion, Illinois
Answer This standard sounds rather old. With new technology and materials, the 500 VDC is not necessary and in fact not recommended.

The ESD Association (ESDA) has a new parent Standard that was designed to replace the MIL-STD-1686 and the ANSI/EIA-625 documents. Both agencies are looking to adopt the ANSI/ESD-S20.20 document as a replacement for their documents. This may be completed (adopted) by the end of this year if everything goes well.

The ESDA’s standard for floors is the ANSI/ESD-S7.1. This standard and the ANSI/ESD S20.20 recommends that the floor be less than 1x109 ohms tested with a megohmeter at 100 VDC and at 3 feet separation of ESD S4.1 electrodes (5 lb).
