Question
Packaging of a carton with upper and bottom using antistatic
sponge.
1.The antistatic sponge should measure by surface resistivity meter or
electrostatic field meter?
2. if correct method to measure the sponge is by electrostatic field
meter. Then rubbing the surface of sponge or without rubbing the surface
of sponge and measure is the correct way?
Answer
If you are verifying the antistatic property of the sponge, then using a field meter would be correct. The ESD Association’s Advisory, ADV11.2 on Triboelectric Charge Accumulation Testing will give you some guidelines for testing this material. A good tool to help with these measurements would be our digital field meter.
In general however, ESD packaging material usually meets a resistance constraint to verify that it is dissipative to some level. The ESD Association’s ANSI/ESD S20.20 should help you with these constraints. In this case a good megohmeter would be the tool needed to measure surface resistivity.
