Question
We manufacture assemblies utilizing both passive and active (ESD sensitive) components. Several components are connected together using various types of cables and wire with open terminations. Open terminations are capped at final inspection and then prepared for shipment. (Units are not sealed enclosures. Components are exposed and can be accessed or subjected to static charges. Question: Do employees handling this product after all open terminations have be "capped" need to be grounded? - Ken Clark , Amesbury, MA
Answer
Yes. You mentioned that even though the terminals are capped that “Units are not sealed enclosures. Components are exposed and can be accessed or subjected to static charges.” If this is correct, and the ESDS devices can be accessed, or come into contact with an un-grounded operator then your device is at risk.
