Question Our Engineers decided that a bench earth ground was not needed at our work stations for ESD control. It was decided that the AC electrical outlets at the benches were enough and connected all test equipment, soldering irons, etc.. and ESD mats and ground strap points to this facility pwr grn. Is this acceptable? - Robert , Nokia Mobile Phones, Cocoa, FL
Answer Yes. This is definitely acceptable, as all the grounded conductors at the ESD bench will be at the same potential as the test equipment. You will just want to have an electrician verify that you have a good power ground (is not floating relative to neutral and hot). One of our items will check the integrity of the 120 volt wiring at a regular duplex outlet.
