Question
Is 70% Isopropyl Alcohol OK to use to clean Statfree® ESD matting?
Answer
No, please do not use 70% Isopropyl Alcohol on your Statfree® Dissipative
Vinyl Matting as this will discolor and dry out the mat. Please see
Reztore™ Antistatic Surface & Mat Cleaner on our website.
Cleaners with significant amounts of ammonia and alcohol work well on a non-porous surface. On a porous surface, such as vinyl or rubber matting, these chemicals will penetrate into the materials and dry out the mat (causing the plasticizer to leach out) making the mat harder and more brittle over time.
This is true for ESD and non-ESD vinyl or rubber matting.
Reztore™ Antistatic Surface & Mat Cleaner is a non solvent based ESD protective product specifically designed for use with ESD Mats. If used on a regular basis will clean without adversely effecting the plasticizers and will enhance the Mat’s electrical properties and its ESD functions of being low tribocharging and able to conduct a charge to ground.
